This is a past event. Participants enjoyed the writing exercises and abundance of materials, but they also loved having two different teachers with two different styles to experiment with. And they -raved- about how much fun this workshop was:
  • "Great fun!"
  • "Fun, useful, fun."
  • "Did I mention it was fun?!?"

The Strong Silent Type: Creating Your Own Wordwear
facilitated by Gretchin Lair & Bridget Benton
Saturday, December 8, 2007
1-4:30 p.m.
$45, which includes ALL materials for TWO projects (additional projects $5-$10 each)
6 max, so RSVP quickly!

Scarlet Star Studios & Eyes Aflame combine their talents: learn how to use your words to create inspirational jewelry patterned after our native wordwear! Hammered onto metals tags, your words attain special significance to become gentle reminders or powerful talismans. As a poet and lover of letters, Gretchin will guide you through writing exercises designed to help find words that are meaningful & truthful for you, while Bridget's creative spark will teach you how to transform those words into beautiful jewelry using a variety of bedazzling techniques. Wordwear makes unique & thoughtful presents for family & friends, as well as serving to emphasize the value of your own creative voice.

About your facilitators: Bridget Benton's creative spark is unquenchable and contagious! At Eyes Aflame she rekindles creativity in spirited individuals and progressive businesses. She combines her love of making stuff with a deep faith in each person's creative ability, while her art explores the meaning of home, memory, and spirit. Bridget created Eyes Aflame in 2002 and earned her Master of Science degree in Creativity and Change Leadership from the International Center for Studies in Creativity at the State University of New York (SUNY) in 2007.

Gretchin Lair is a creative advocate who likes to encourage people to make art -- any art! As the owner of Scarlet Star Studios, she wants to restore hope & faith in your own abilities by encouraging a variety of opportunities for creative self-expression. Known for her "quiet leadership" and "splendid mix of art and honesty," Gretchin has been a creative facilitator, art curator, exhibited calligrapher, prize-winning poet & acclaimed actress over the last 15 years.

About the studio: Scarlet Star Studios offers a wide variety of opportunities for art exploration, with instructors who will encourage you to create fearlessly & truthfully in a familiar, safe and inspiring studio environment.
