Writing Your Way to Wellness
facilitated by Suzette Barakat
Tuesday evenings, May 6-27, 2008
7-9 p.m.
$60 for the whole series!
6 max, so RSVP quickly!Using a combination of walking, discussion & art, Writing Your Way to Wellness is a unique opportunity to address your health with a supportive and vibrant medical student. Suzette will offer creative tools to help you address and change your relationships with food, stress & exercise. Though much of this is based on Julia Cameron's "The Writing Diet," this is NOT a diet series and does not focus on weight loss! Instead, Suzette focuses on Health At Every Size, using Julia's techniques for self-reflection and transformation (some of which you may recognize from her majorly successful series, "The Artist's Way"). In addition to the weekly group support, participants may also receive additional individual support via phone.
Note: A copy of the "The Writing Diet" is NOT required in advance. However, Suzette will send you a packet of reflective exercises you may begin before the class begins, and she may also chat with you beforehand to better understand your goals.
About your facilitator: Suzette Barakat will graduate from the OHSU School of Medicine in June. She's felt called to the path of health & healing since her father's heart attack & subsequent stroke when she was a child. Suzette's own journey to explore health has taken her all over the country. From her home in Texas she traveled to Ithaca, NY where she earned a degree in Nutrition from Cornell University. She then made her way to Santa Barbara, CA where she found a niche conducting diabetes research in the high schools and helping teenagers make health choices that would improve their health and prevent diabetes. With a desire to become a physician who focuses on preventing disease and promoting health, Suzette wants to do what she loves most: connect with amazing people and facilitate their journey towards better health.
About the studio: Scarlet Star Studios offers a wide variety of opportunities for art exploration, with instructors who will encourage you to create fearlessly & truthfully in a familiar, safe and inspiring studio environment.
