Edible Book Tea
Thursday, March 13, 2007
7-9 p.m.
FREE!
Happy anniversary, Open Studio! To celebrate three years of intuitive collage & other events at Scarlet Star Studios, we're going to make it a red-letter day with exceptionally good taste: essentially, we'll be hosting an emphemeral exhibit where all your works of art will be *edible* and inspired by books and/or letters!
Please bring an "edible book" to share like the ones at the The International Edible Book Gallery. From 7-7:30 you will sip tea while viewing the edible exhibit. At 7:30 pm, the works will be photographed & shared. At 8 p.m. the books will be devoured!
I encourage you to play with your food! The books you "write" can be either sweet or savory. Edible books might have pages made of sliced bread, seaweed, cold cuts, pea pods, lettuce leaves, tortillas, jello, fruit roll-ups, won-ton wrappers or pasta, among other things. But you don't even need pages to eat your words! You are welcome to use cookie cutters & templates, food coloring & stamps, candy & spices. If you're stuck, find a food-or-book-based quote and "illustrate" it. Or, easiest of all, make a book-shaped cake!
This event has no attendee limit: the more the merrier! But I would kindly request an RSVP so that I have an idea of how many cups/plates to wrangle up.
Notes:
I'll provide the space, supplies & cleanup, including plates, tea, cups, silverware & napkins. All you have to do is show up and bring...1. An edible book, ready to display & serve
2. appropriate serving/cutting utensils
3. A tag with the name of your piece and how it came about (and the book that inspired you if applicable)About the studio: Scarlet Star Studios offers a wide variety of opportunities for art exploration, with instructors who will encourage you to create fearlessly & truthfully in a familiar, safe and inspiring studio environment.
For more details or to RSVP, please contact us! Feel free to forward this opportunity along to someone who wants to have their book and eat it, too.
