october events

October Events
My long-time friend and poet-photographer Leeann is taking me to Morocco for a 3-week photography tour! Hopefully some of her talent will rub off on me.
Even though we're not hosting any events this month, October is a very abundant art month! Fun events in October I'll miss that you shouldn't:
- The HP Lovecraft Film Festival at the Hollywood Theatre Oct 2, 3 & 4
- 100th Monkey Art Supply Swap October 3, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Portland Open Studios Tour October 10, 11, 17 & 18
- IPRC's 4th Annual Text Ball October 10, 7 p.m.
But mark your calendars now for two great events in early November! Vibrant and generous Bridget Benton from Eyes Aflame will be teaching two quick, fun classes here at our studio:
Spiral Notebook Necklace
Wednesday, November 4, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
$35 includes all materials!
http://www.eyesaflame.com/notebooknecklace.html
In one quick and easy class, you’ll learn to make a tiny spiral notebook with sturdy acrylic covers. Fill the interior with blank pages, favorite images, tiny text, or decorative papers, and hang it from a simple chain or cord. You’ll end up with a lovely, wearable, and yes, even useable, 1.25" x1.25" spiral notebook necklace. Very beginner friendly. You can make a tiny storybook, love letter, travel journal, memory book . . . yes, even holiday ornaments! I’ll bring the handouts and teach you the techniques – you bring your own creative ideas! All materials will be provided, though if you have your own hand or electric drill with a 1/16” (or smaller) drill bit, feel free to bring it along! You may also want to bring tiny images or favorite decorative papers for the inside, or a special stamp to decorate the outside. Makes a great gift!
Guardian Night Light
Wednesdays, November 11 & 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
$52 includes all materials!
http://www.eyesaflame.com/GuardianNightLight.html
We can all use a little watching out for, and these wonderful Guardian Night Lights are designed to do exactly that. We start out by creating an 8"x10" guardian collage during the first class. Then, during the second class, we scan the guardian image, transfer it to a durable plastic material, shape it, shrink it, adorn it with beads, and attach it to the night light! Not only will you take home an amazingly personal guardian light for yourself or a friend, you’ll walk away with all the skills and resources you need to make more, including the digital files! All materials will be provided. However, if you have images you would like to use, please bring them. Also, if you have a flash drive that you'd like to save the file to as opposed to taking home a CD, please bring it.

If you're looking to teach a class or host an event, we're now renting the studio for a variety of art activities. At just $25/hour, you won't find a more welcoming or inspiring environment with abundant supplies and creature comforts. Whether it's an art class, party, celebration or retreat, please contact us if you'd like to arrange for your special event in our space.
Last but not least, please support Trillium Artisans! Trillium is a 3-year program designed to support green & crafty businesses. I'm excited to announce Trillium and SCRAP have teamed up to offer Trillium Artisan products at SCRAP's awesome location, so stop by when you get the chance or buy yourself something nice at their online store. And though I'm no longer on the Board of Trillium, so if you donate $10 or more I'll match your donation!
warmest wishes for a fortunate Fall,

piano improv: moroccan nights
by sven at 11:59 pm
Here's a little tune I just came up with called "Moroccan Nights"… Listen to the mp3 by clicking here. (4.66 MB)
It's repetitive and clumsy -- but it was only about 15 minutes from inspiration to recording -- so you can't ask for much.
I really like being able to just put the laptop on the piano bench beside me to capture impromptu stuff like this.

while sven & i were eating dinner at portobello last week, some mysterious benefactors were gifting trixie with a few new magnets! it's always a delight to return to the car to find new poetry, but to find new words entirely is even more marvelous. thank you, you fair word fairies! trixie is practically beaming with pride & gratitude.
[watch me go fast]
[easy summer]
[do not lick or feel monkey]
[celebrate romance garden]
[dreamed of all face glow]

toby's travels: wisconsin & back
by gl. at 3:01 pm
in july sven & i took a road trip to wisconsin. as we travelled toby & gregory insisted we create a series based on their trip! so i initially uploaded these videos to youtube via the iphone as we went along, but i was very disappointed in the quality of the final movies, so here they are again -- along with an additional, never-before-seen bonus video!

September Events
Is summer almost over already? I can hardly believe it. I guess I can't complain: I got to travel, perform with Original Practice Shakespeare, teach "Creative Business Identity" with a wonderful group at SCRAP, wrote my annual birthday poem, and even experienced a tornado and lived to tell about it! Hope your summer had some fun, frivolity & adventure, too.
Next month I'm delighted to announce the return of Vicki Lind's very popular class, "Don't Think! Paint!" on Saturday September 19! Designed for nonpainters, Vicki's class helps you ignore that inner voice that asks "How does it look?" and instead allows you to find the key to recognition & resolution. Your painting will provide clues about how to dissolve your barriers and empower you to move towards prosperity. (Painters may attend if they will park their prior knowledge of art techniques at the door!)

At just $25/hour, you won't find a more welcoming or inspiring environment with abundant supplies and creature comforts. Last but not least, please support Trillium Artisans! Trillium is a 3-year program designed to educate, encourage and support small crafty businesses using recycled materials. Supporting Trillium helps connect craftspeople to wholesale, retail & online markets. Buy yourself or a friend something nice at their online store. I'm on the Board of Trillium, so if you donate $10 or more I'll match your donation!
warmest wishes for a sublime September,
